Yep, open diff for all "small" cars would be my first wish too...

For now you just have to make the suspension a bit harder so the wheels stay where they belong. No spin at all.

After all the mostly stupid threads I've read and wrote about rx7's and the nordschleife I've got a new suggestion to make...

I love the sound of the lfs cars. Yes, they're all not completely real but they give great feedback of what your right foot is doing atm.
But wouldn't it be possible to change the sound of the BOV (for turbos) or to bring a new sound to the bigger non-turbo cars which pops and snots a bit like leMans or Rally cars? I don't care about exhaust flames or stuff... this may be in s3, but I think misfire could add a little more realism without much work to do.

Now anyway, I'm driving a Mini and I still try to get the LFS-frontwheelers to handle like my little road sticking racing lemon... all 4 wheels pushing to the outside in corners, brake--->slight oversteer, gas--->slight understeer. Nothing more predictable than this car. and if you want to oversteer more just corner faster, then one wheel lifts and the little bum turns you where you want to go, without using rear stab (how could you??) or diff lock.
I once tried to setup the gti like my mini, it was just horrible, but I just think that without the...hmmm... how do you call the "popometer" butt-meter??... you'll never get the same driving sensation.

Okay, the Nordschleife may be a very fascinating track, but imo you need many players to bring the ring to life... remember the recent big 24 hour races, they had up to 240 cars on the track!!! You can't go there with 20 people and just have a ride...

I would love racing the xrr there for a few hours though!

We once drove a few races (uf1, fe) and everytime somebody won he had to take a passenger onboard. was veeeeeery funny!!!!
But don't get too much bureaucracy into the game, this kills every sport!

hey, seems like there are more mini-drivers than I would have expected :-)

My little one is still not photographed, it's a yellow one without bumpers, with Inno-gauges and 45hp... nothing very special but damn fast in corners!

the best motor I've seen in a mini so far is the honda vtec with 130hp. It fits quite well and you can get it street legal in germany. apart from that you could buy a dohc head and some other stuff that could push a 1380 engine up to 180bhp, but i think it's better to have a stable machine that takes 7litres at 130hp than 15l at 180. Also a V8 would be much too heavy.

As driver of a Mini 1000 I have to admit that I've got no chance to overtake a peugeot 106 or an opel corsa... but with a 1275GT and about 70hp I think this would be possible.........and fun!

The only disadvantage would be that there's one more car, I think we already have too many.

why do so many people want this kind of thing?
I mean, just start winamp (with your personal car audio skin), hit "shuffle" and enjoy...
I don't want lfs to be a processor killer just because it has options i NEVER use... also imo you have to listen to your engine/tyre sounds to be fast.

So why don't you use winamp? any reason?

I partiallly agree, if it would be posible to sort bad models out then we'd only have the problem for everyone to download every model to drive with others... but this would IMO kill the whole game. I don't want to race against supras and 911s because they are REAL cars and because you can't force any modders/creaters to make their physics models to exactly fit existing lfs vehicles...

You'll have to invent new classes which would lead to people splitting e.g. into

gtp class
gtq class
nos racers
non-nos-street racers
oldtimers
prototypes....................

Naah, seriously, the game wasn't fun anymore when stupid kids built badly modeled cars with a couple of 1000s hp...

As an old slotacer I know that it is not really important which car you drive, mostly it's the thrill you get by tough competition in a race, so you have to equalize the starting conditions. I think the devs did a damn great job creating these fine vehicles. In the gtr class e.g. you can chose from 3 different types of cars and every one of them has pros and contras.

Also the more cars there are in a game, the more players will split... so we'll have about 1000 servers running 50 different cars on 50 different tracks, and there will only be 2 people per server... not a very nice game anymore, reminds me of my old 1nsane days.

Last but not least I hate modern ricers with pool tables as rear wings and their faces full of cheap plastic! NOS and stuff like this had been invented by cheaters and even carbon fibre can be painted DAMMIT
No really, if you want to drive these cars and have graphics that make you puke at 200mph you better stick to nfs:u or ridge ricer

I installed win2k recently, installed all the newest drivers, hotfixes and service packs , still the same error :-( When I start the game I have to press shift-c about 30-50 times (no joke!) to get ff working. Any good tips left?

Okay, maybe ms ff has a problem with the soundblaster, i've calibrated it in windows and in lfs. Could you tell me if you've got the 3.02 drivers installed? I think I'll install win2k again and try the 3.02 as well. I also bought another sb live (this time it's slightly another version of the live!player) and try it again. But I'd love to know what really causes these stupid messages...

I'm going to instal 2000 in October since I don't have an unlock code left, I'll tell you what happens then.

okay, on with the informations ;-)

mainboard doesn't have gameport, AND the nforce2-ultra chipset only supports gameports from sb live or sb audigy cards (BEWARE OF NFORCE) . but the wheel and anything else I stuffed into the gameport work perfectly with the port and xp (also tired it with win2k, same there).
The only thing i can remember was that during installation of the sb drivers there was a win compatibility error "this gameport might not support bla bla for older wheels or joysticks" or sth like that.
But everything works well, even other games which use ff like flatout and...hmm.. like flatout :-). And sometimes lfs also works pretty well.
I didn't get any driver for the ms ff, downloaded this 3.02 thing but couldn't install it (BIG error message, not the little "doesn't work on xp"-type)
Sooo...
The wheel also didn't work with the standard button set, but i didn't care about errors back then, I thought the damn wheel was broke. So forget what I said in the first thread, at the moment the wheel works 1 out of 5 times I start lfs and do the shift+c-procedure.

the wheel is a standard ms sidewinder ff (gameport version). When I start the game there are mostly 2 error messages, both times "LoadProperty failed". I have to get into a single player race, reset my steering by pushing "shift+c" , after this the message dialog sais "Eingabegeräte initialisiert" or so, which means something like "controls initialised", but directly after this there is the error message "LoadProperty failed" again. then i have to get out of the game and restart. Mostly there are the two similar messages again, so I continue this procedure until there is only one "LoadProperty failed" at game start. then the ff works.

Oh Yes, and sometimes there is a quick message at the beginning of a single player race which says "Path info changed", but this doesn't seem to be a severe error.

My system is
Athlon3200+
Ati 9600pro
512MB ram 400MHz
Elitegroup board (n2u400-a)
winXP (absolutely new and clean)
soundblaster live player 1024 (with the desired gameport on it)

Please guys, isn't there any advice for me?

I really don't want to start the game several times before i can drive...

I'm sorry, but i have to post again...

As I told you the problem was gone once I pressed shift+c. That was not the whole truth :-( Everytime I want to race I have to start the game twice...
when I run the game for the first time there is this error message again, so I have to play a short single player race, press shift+c, get out of the game and start all over again. It works well then, but I want to ask how I can get rid of this awful ceremony.

Hello there!

I've been into lfs since october 03, but now i've got a new ff wheel and something strange happens...
The ff fx didn't seem to work and there was this red little message popping up everytime I started S2:

SetProperty failed.

So I reinstalled it and everything went fine.FF was ON, feeling was great, but the buttons were wrong... So i put every function where i wanted it and there was my problem again.

SetProperty failed.

and the ff was gone.

can anybody explain this to me please? Maybe it's just one little mistake i make, or maybe i just HAVE to use the default buttons...don't know.

[Edit:] I even reinstalled S2 (unzip, overwrite all) and put the p2 patch over it all, still the same problems. So I presume it has to be some kind of config file... but I already deleted the cfg.txt, still the same error

[Edit II ] another update: I deleted every config file in the root dir of lfs, still the same error message. Installed the game on another hd, no user, no account, STILL the same error... scanned the registry for "SetProperty" but didn't find anything.
But as I said, an hour ago, after a total new start it worked just fine!


[Final Edit: PROBLEM SOLVED] Man, when was the last time aomebody told me the mightiest letters when having software Problems? RTFM!!!! I just pressed shift+c and the fuzz was gone!
